Thank you for your interest in an ELEMENTARY school teaching position here in the Diocese of Orange.
PLEASE NOTE:  High School applicants must apply directly to the high schools.
The following guidelines are for all elementary school teaching positions (PS-8th grade, full-time, part-time and substitute teachers).

 

Before an applicant can be considered for a position, we require the following:

  1. A current resume with a cover letter specifically highlighting what kind of position you are looking for and what gifts you will bring to that position. If you are seeking a specific position at a school please reference that position.
  2. The completed application and which must include your responses to the highlighted questions on Page 3 of the application
  3. Sealed, official transcripts confirming the degree(s) you have been granted should be sent to our office.  Please do not include/send transcripts marked as unofficial.  They will not be included in your file.  If you have opened, official transcripts, you may scan them and email them along with the application to expedite the approval process.   If you are offered a contract you will have to provide the sealed official transcripts for your personnel file.
  4. Confirmation of the current status of your credential (If you don’t have a credential, please explain why in the cover letter)
  5. Forward the reference form to the individuals who will be completing them on your behalf.  We require three references; two professional references from individuals who can give an assessment of your teaching abilities and one character reference (preferably from your pastor) to provide an assessment of your Catholic Identity. Each individual is to complete the form and send it back to nricco@rcbo.org directly. References forwarded by applicants will not be included in their application file.  References may, if they wish, include a reference letter with the completed form.  We do not accept letters of reference in lieu of the completed form.

Once your application is complete it will be submitted for review and approval.  If your application is approved it will be made available to ALL the elementary school principals to consider for their open positions.

Mission Basilica School is a Catholic preschool through 8th grade school that educates the children of Mission Basilica Parish and greater community.  The school is a ministry of the parish and as such serves to educate its students academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.  The school recognizes parents as the primary educators of children and works in partnership with parents to holistically develop the unique gifts and talents of each learner.

KNOWLEDGE / PREFERED SKILLS

  • High School Diploma / Certificate in Early Childhood Education or 12 or more Early Childhood Education (ECE) units
  • Experience in a preschool or child care setting with management experience
  • A passion for the mission of Catholic education
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Sycamore Education, and Google
  • Strong organizational and managerial skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate to young children, teachers, and parents
  • Ability to manage a budget
  • Familiarity with the Catechesis of the Good Shepard
  • Basic Catechist Certification through the Diocese of Orange Institute for Pastoral Ministry
  • A thorough understanding of Title 22 of the California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing
  • The ability to develop curriculum and school policies that fulfill the school’s mission and vision
  • A thorough knowledge of the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Knowledge of best practices in early childhood education

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The teacher’s assistant is responsible for supervising children under the direction of the teacher. The aide will treat all children with respect and dignity.  Operates in the classroom to assure that all programs are executed smoothly and efficiently.  Maintains the cleanliness of the room.  Involves oneself in the activities provided for the children.  Fosters a relationship with the children in the class.  Communicates with children per the philosophy of Mission Basilica School.  Respectful and courteous with parents.  Encourages goodwill with staff members.   Willingness to follow directions.  Fulfills directed responsibilities in accordance with the school’s educational philosophy.
  • Responsible for setting up room for activities for children. Greets families as they arrive.  Assists in helping children separate from parents.  Needs to have knowledge of laminator, copier, and minimal computer skills.
  • Assists with the supervision of children during Lunch and rest time.

This position facilitates the growth of Catholic school faith communities by organizing, directing and coordinating personnel and other administrative services that support the mission of the Office of Catholic Schools at the local elementary and secondary schools.

The Associate Superintendent of Catholic Schools is responsible to carry out the assigned general duties as needed to implement the Catholic philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Office of Catholic Schools in the service of Catholic education. This position assists the Superintendent in coordinating and maximizing the effectiveness of Catholic schools’ resources, including systems, personnel and programs. Specifically, this position helps to ensure all diocesan schools are well run and efficiently staffed. Further this position works to ensure that all schools have strong enrollment with tuition assistance available on a planned and rational basis.

Critical thinking is a must, with a proven track record of success in taking on challenging assignments with a high impact for results and success. ASSOCIATE SUPERINTENDENT OF CATHOLIC SCHOOLS CURRICULUM, SPIRITUALITY AND ACCREDITATION, PASTORAL CENTER, GARDEN GROVE, CA

This position reports directly to Dr. Erin Barisano, the Superintendent of Schools, and will work closely with the Most Reverend Thomas Thanh Thai Nguyen, Auxiliary Bishop of Orange, while supervising a complement of Office of Catholic Schools support staff in the administration of the Dioceses 34 Catholic schools.  The position will also work closely with the Associate Superintendent of Marketing and Enrollment.

This position facilitates the growth of Catholic school faith communities by organizing, directing and coordinating personnel and other administrative services that support the mission of the Office of Catholic Schools at the local elementary and secondary schools.

The Associate Superintendent of Catholic Schools is responsible to carry out the assigned general duties as needed to implement the Catholic philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Office of Catholic Schools in the service of Catholic education. Specifically, this position assists the Superintendent in coordinating resources to Catholic schools and systems personnel and programs by coordinating diocesan activities in the areas of curriculum, accreditation and student and educator spiritual growth.  It includes professional staff development in education and faith formation, and special education needs and intervention.

Collaboration is critical to the incumbent’s success, as authority while not vested must be earned. Terms of Employment:

  • The Extended Care Program operates on school days from 7:00 am – 7:30 am (8:30 am on Wed) and 2:30 pm – 6:00 pm (M-F), and on minimum days from 12:00 noon – 6:00 pm.
  • The Extended Care Aide position will be scheduled from 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm or 6:00 pm but may also be requested to be available for other possible shifts during the hours needed such as on minimum days.
  • The Extended Care Aide position is part-time and hourly.

Extended Care Program Mission:

St. Cecilia School Extended Care Program is a nurturing, caring, and friendly environment that provides a high quality before-and after-school program for students in K4 through 8th grade.  Our main goal is to offer the children a safe, fun, and comfortable environment.  Our focus will be on providing each child with new challenges that will result in a rewarding after school experience.

Job Goal:

The Extended Care Aide will assist the Extended Care Program Director and other staff members with the implementation of a quality program that enriches the students’ spiritually, academically, socially emotionally, and physically.  Daily expectations include:

  • Ensuring the safety of the students in all situations within the Extended Care Program.
  • Leading children in outdoor and indoor activities
  • Assisting students in completing their homework assignments and day-to-day needs
  • Preparing, serving snacks as well as maintaining a clean and organized environment
  • Maintaining a professional and appropriate attitude and appearance towards students, parents and other staff members.
  • Performing all other duties associated with the position, as requested by the Principal and Extended Care Director.

Job Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred, with the intent to focus on child development, or related field. Senior year students in good standing in high school will be considered.
  • Work/Professional Experience: Previous experience in After School program environment helpful, but not required. Childcare experience helpful, but not required.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to communicate with children, parents, and other staff members in a professional, ethical and responsible manner.
  • Demonstrate leadership and positive authority with children.
  • Must be congenial and have a desire and ability to work with children and other staff members.
  • Promote a safe and healthy environment to support the emotional and social development of the children
  • Demonstrate initiative, ability to create and develop fun after school ideas, and work well with a minimum of supervision
  • Must be able to work Monday through Friday. Minimize absences and idle time at work.  Demonstrates punctuality and conformity to working practices.
  • Must be able to stand for long period of time when supervising the students.
